#HUMAWARDS 2017 : All the fun you missed. Not a lot, that is.
Like we have reported several times, Pakistani entertainment industry is gearing up for a lot of new things, including grand award shows. Last weekend, Hum Awards took place in Lahore, in presence of a lot of celebrities, but still a lot of them were absent.
Who you ask? Well, Mahira Khan? Fawad Khan? Both of them are basically a production of Hum Tv, aren’t they? We are a little surprised as to why they couldn’t make it to the event. Are they too busy? With what? One movie? Come on, that’s not reason enough to not attend. We say that only because stars are needed to make award shows grand, but it looks like no one believes in coming together for something that is good for the industry, till now.
Like Lux Style Awards, the well hyped Hum Awards also seemed to be confused between movies and television. Mehwish Hayat is a movie actress. We are sure she has a lot of songs from her own films to dance to, but guess what she chooses to perform on? Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast from a recent Indian movie, Machine, having two relatively unknown actors in the cast. Why? Why couldn’t you have chosen your own songs? Right! We guess the industry just doesn’t want to have an identity, and then they say audiences are running blindly towards Bollywood. Aren’t Pakistani stars forcing their local audiences to follow Bollywood?
Reema, with her spectacular performance, broke the mould and danced to Quratulain Baloch’s melodious number, Saiyyan, and a few other Pakistani songs, including Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s unforgettable Mere Rashke Kamar. She looked jaw dropping gorgeous in a traditional outfit, and her performance is sure a lesson for all the up and coming actresses, trying to finally be able to perform on stage.
Kubra Khan, who has been in the limelight for her role in the recently concluded viral television serial, Sange Mar Mar, also performed, and surprised everyone with her dance moved. Ahsan Khan joined the actress on stage, and tried to match her spectacular moves, but failed miserably. But wait! Don’t be too excited, as they also danced to some really lame dance number. Sange Mar Mar was huge, but why would she be dancing on a song from Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and not on the beautiful title track from the show? By now, we have seriously lost half of it.
To top it all, comes Ahsan Khan’s performance, where he requests one of Pakistan’s comedy legends, Bushra Ansari to join him, but totally forgets she exists as soon as she starts matching her steps with his. He doesn’t even look at her, and she goes back and sits in her seat all by herself. Dude! Where are your manners?
A lot of such things really made our heart cry during the show, despite all the hype. A television actress dancing to a film song, that too Bollywood, another film actress dancing to yet another Bollywood song. Honestly, it was a little too much to take. What do you guys work so hard on your OST’s for? To play Bollywood music on the award shows eventually?
On the whole, it was sure a star-studded entertaining show, and this post certainly does not intend to make fun of the show or anyone. It only requests our stars and producers, to please start prioritizing Pakistani content if real growth is being fantasised. Hum Tv produces unbelievably fabulous content, including beautiful soundtracks, but to see all of that music (that fans have been going gaga over all year) being sidelined for some other songs, is painful.
