Ranveer to romance a male actor in PADMAVATI?
While a lot of people question the authenticity of history today, some filmmakers are still mesmerized by the the tales of ancient times, a period they haven’t had the chance to be a part of, and it is only natural.
After unveiling of Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s posters from their respective looks in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming project, Padmavati, the makers, earlier yesterday, released Ranveer Singh’s character poster and it looks hauntingly unreal.
Portraying one of the most powerful rulers of Khalji dynasty in Delhi Sultanate, Allaudin Khilji, he looks perfectly royal. Ranveer Singh makes sure he bowls us over with each new character he chooses to play on the silver screen, and with this poster he has done just that again.
According to our research, and a lot of history articles on the internet, we have come to discover that Allaudin Khilji’s character had a lot of negative shades. He was a very powerful ruler, yet not famous in people. While he was in love with Padmavati, according to the movie, some claim that he was in reality a bisexual man, who originally loved only one man, Malik Kafur.
Now the history behind Malik Kafur’s arrival in Khilji’s life is also an interesting story in itself.
Bacha Bazi, a practice (said to be pretty common in Afghanistan) by rich men to buy young boys for their sexual pleasure and other work. Allaudin Khilji, as per history texts, was also introduced to Bacha Bazi somehow, and bought Malik Kafur for his harem of 70,000 men, as he was totally in love with his beauty and feminine ways.
Later, he kept Kafur with himself, and eventually made him a part of his army, giving him an important position, out of all other 69,999 people.
Later, Malik Kafur went after what he really was after, the kingdom. Allaudin Khilji, due to his illness in his last years, started distrusting most of his partners and wanted to give maximum power in the hands of someone who was trustworthy. During that process, suspicious of their actions, Khilji executed a lot of people working for him. This all was said to be planned by his lover, Malik Kafur.
Malik Kafur blinded Khilji’s both sons, so that they are not eligible for kingdom, the latter had no other choice than giving most of the power in the hands of his lover. But later, Malik Kafur was assassinated before he could fulfill his dream of becoming the King.
A chronicler in those times, Ziauddin Barani stated the following:
In those four or five years when the Sultan was losing his memory and his senses, he had fallen deeply and madly in love with the Malik Naib. He had entrusted the responsibility of the government and the control of the servants to this useless, ungrateful, ingratiate, sodomite
After reading these highlights from Khilji and Kafur’s love affair, you would be wondering if this all is going to be incorporated in the movie or not, and how Padmavati came into the scene. Answer to the first question, Yes! there is going to be a very good looking Malik Kafur in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, who is none other than the guy we all fell in love with, due to his outstanding performance in Neerja. Jim Sarbh, a former theater actor, will be seen playing Ranveer Singh a.k.a Allaudin Khilji’s love interest in the movie.
Since Allaudin Khilji was bisexual, as soon as he heard of married Rani Padmavati’s beauty, he wanted to make her his royal consort and attacked her area, in order to take her and all other women into his harem. But later, they all resorted to suicide, instead of going into his harem.
All of these facts are getting us really, really excited, and we wonder how much are we going to see on the screen, and how many problems is this movie going to have with the censorship.
